Green Marketing costs a whole lot of green(cash). A number of companies have worked hard to create a greener image, and that image has some fairly high expenses, with no real understanding if there are going to be high rewards.

Take BP: the third-largest oil company in the world. Once British Petroleum, in 2000 they rebranded “Beyond Petroleum” with a new age fuzzy sun logo. They spent $200 million on a worldwide advertising blitz and won a truckload of industry awards. - Vancouver Sun

When you take a look a the www.bp.com website, you’ll notice a few things, first, there tab for “environment and society” becomes before their products.  Second, they have very few references to “petroleum”, clearly rebranding themselves “BP”.

Many electric companies offer some nice rebate programs for upgrading your old appliances to newer, more energy efficient appliances.  Taking an old refrigerator, washer, water heaters, and swamp coolers out of your house and replacing them can save you a ton of money and help the environment.  Here is some of this summer’s offerings from Southern California Edison.

With the new housing boom and the growing demand for green building, many new home owners have found the hidden benefits of clean ecological design.  Geena in Beaumont California recently bought a new home built by Standard Pacific found that the larger new house was more efficient than the old home they moved from.  “We lived in a small 1000 square foot home that was built in the 50’s, and our new 3000 square foot home cost is cheaper to run in both gas and electric.  I don’t know the exact numbers but we just don’t spend nearly as much as before.”

Many newly built home now come with a standard trash and recycling bin under the counter.  With the recent housing boom, many people that have bought new houses now have the ability to easily collect bottles, cans, and paper in their house, and then take it out to the city recycling bin.

If you do not have a new home, it does not mean that you can’t still do you duty to recycle.  Start by going to your local Wal-Mart and pick up an extra trash bin, and then tell the family it is time to start recycling.

Waste? Then re-use glass bottles.

Glass is a clean alternative to buying products in plastic or in carton.  One, you can always recycle glass, or you can re-use it.   Some companies go the extra mile when using glass.  Longmont Dairy Farm in Colorado still delivers milk in glass bottles to your doorstep.  They have always used glass bottles because it keeps the taste of the milk as fresh as possible.   They collect the empty bottles every week, take them to their plant, clean and sterilize, then refill.  The milk never tasted so good, and the waste does not exist like milk you buy at the store.

Many business and homes now have trash can for recycling.  But the recycling at the office is often overlooked.  Think about all the paper an average business uses today.  Then think, not every business has a recycling program.

RedFusion Media is an average business with about a dozen employees that did not have a recycling program.  “We have a wonderful downtown office location, in a town where all the homes have recycling bins, but our building did not have a recycling bin,” said Molly Burgess, General Manager.  “So the solution we worked out was to buy about 10 small blue recycling trash cans and place them at each of the desks. We take all of the paper home, where we do have a recycling bin.”

Electric Motor Sales

Green is becoming a big marketing keyword and advertising buzz word.

Customer relationships seem to be benefiting more from Green, because it is the relationship that is being strengthened by the producer telling the consumer why they are acting in a green manner. RedFusion Media

A company like Brithinee Electric, who has always been pushing a green agenda for years by selling the advantages of high efficient electric motors, but they always pushed the cash savings to a company. Now they have a campaign that promotes the green side of the motors, which includes the other carbon components of energy.
